DOGSONG ♡

Chapter 1

Draylee yawned and stared down at her two sweet pups, Yuaii and her brother- whom she had not named. Why had she not named her little pup? A couple of reasons really, he reminded her to much of.. him. Fen, his father. Fen and her had met quite some time ago, back when they weren't strays. Her master, lily- and Fens master- Rowan had taken them both for a walk in the park of SunterDale.
It was a small park, and they were quite young. Just growing out of puppyhood. Excited to see another dog- and possibly a new friend, had excited Draylee. Master had clipped her from the leash- and she was free. Oh! How it felt to be free! I immediately bounded up to Fen, a bounce in my step. We had played chase, wrestle, and squirrel stalking before master could clip the leashes back on our necks.
Thats when I discovered the feeling of being caged up. I did not want to go home. I wanted to stay with this friend and have fun. But lily kept tugging and tugging. Strong little thing she was. Fen didn't give as much resistance to rowan, and before I knew it I was alone with lily. But I still fought, I want to feel free! free! freeeeee! Eventually though I was hungry, and Lily was able to somewhat drag me halfway across the street. Thats when everything went wrong. I remember being dragged then- woosh! Pull! Bang! Ow! Then see'ing her. Little Lily.... No, I wont allow myself to remember.
Shaking myself away from the memories I stood. Yuaii moaned and reached for my belly, but I shoved her off. "No Yuaii, I must go hunt."
Fen was the one who had hunted for me while I was with pup, but after he saw there were only two survivors.. He went cold. He said it was his fault and he MUST of gave me something bad to eat. Then he had become so angry at himself, I caught him..caught him tearing at his neck. He was bloody and not in his right mind. I drove him off easy, but no, thats the wrong word. I did not drive him off easy, It took a great toll on me, a 'Broken soul' Jade had muttered when she saw me. Jade was a dog that lived in a small pack of six. She often visited me though, trying to convince me to join. But I have learned by now, that when you join something.. and you grow to love something.. it will be torn away from you.
She turned to look back and Yuaii and the small boy pup, they would too leave her, someday. But she would love them while she could, she would be the best of the mothers. Then when she had made sure she had done all she could do for them, she would rest. Maybe forever- because that was the only thing she could count on not to be torn away. Death. You would always stay dead once you were dead, and nothing could take death from you.
"Wow, I'm a emotional reck today."
Then without saying any more, Draylee disappeared into the woods.

Chapter two

Yuaii tilted her head confused as her mother became one with the... what were those? Brown tall thingys with green atop them? Ah, it didn't matter. Her brother was yawning beside her, and in a little squeak he managed to ask where she went.
"I think she went to.. stop the angry feeling in our.." Yuaii touched her paw to her stomach.
"When will she be back?"
Yuaii tried to shrug, but without the energy of her mothers milk- she collapsed. Exasperated- she answered.
"I'm not sure how I know this... but i think she'll be back very soon- with someone."
"How would you know that?" The other pup said quietly.
"I dont know. Her heart just felt happy, then sad, then depressed, then she felt scared, and next she felt friendly-"
The boy rolled his brown eyes, and shook his floppy gold ears.
Yuaii ignored him and rested her head on the soft fabric mother had left behind. She had called it a coat earlier, "Coat." Yuaii tasted the word on her tongue, it didn't feel right.
Next yuaii thoroughly examined her surroundings. They were not in the tall dark brown green things, they were in some green fuzzy clearing, it looked.... pretty? was that the word... She decided to test it to, "Prett-"
Her brother moaned.
"What?" she turned quickly, was he hurt?
He certainly wasn't hurt. Brother stood leaning against a brown and green thing, forcing his ears against it.
"Stop making so much noise! Its annoying." He moaned, again.
"Don't be such a..pup! I'm just testing words out, and mind you- rubbing your face into that thing probably won't help."
His short tail drooped and he stumbled back to the coat, "Whatever."
Then he added- quietly and quickly, "An, we are pups!"
choosing to ignore him, she went on. "Pretty Pretty Pretty Pretty Pretty. Pretty... coats! Pretty coats Pretty coats. Pretticoats.. Pretty Goats! Pretty floats! and moats! and... more goats!" She chanted along happily, vocal cords straining.
Awhile after everything had calmed down mother was back, shining in the sun. Behind her was a funny smell.

Chapter 3

Draylee was surprised to see young Yuaii up and moving, but glad too. Jade told her that one night Flora ( A elderly dog ) had fallen to sleep without feeding her new pup. The pup had no energy to fight off the cold, it died.
She shivered, then turn to reveal Jade.
A small gasp escaped the boy pup, "You were right Yuaii! How'd you know?"
Yuaii beamed, and My thoughts clouded with confusion, "Right about what?"
"Yuaii said that you would come back soon with someone."
Draylee turned to see Jades expression, her eyes were glassy and unsettled.
Draylee coughed up a bark, trying to change the subject.
"Yes well, this is Jade... she is here to help me, and name you." I tilted my head toward the boy pup.
Jade broke the wary silence, and to much relief- her glassy eyes gone. "Oh! Course.Well I've been thinking and..Kaz sounds just fitting."
I closed my eyes and smiled warmly, "Kaz, that is your name." Draylee briefly touched noses with her pup, then told Jade to please find some dinner.
Jade had just nodded, racing off to scout the woods for a meal.
Draylee dug her claws into the ground, "Now, yuaii- how did you know I was coming with a friend?"
" I could feel it mommy."
Then Yuaii's eyes became deadly serious, "Shes watching us.. kaz mostly.. from behind that stick thingy-"
Suddenly Draylee was in the air, something had just rammed into her. It was Jade.
But Jade wasn't aiming for her, she had just been a obstacle. As she passed- she saw that those glassy eyes were staring straight at Kaz, and Yuaii.
BLOCK HER BLOCK HER BLOCK HER! My mind screamed. 
As if Jade could sense my fear she turned on me, snarling- "Don't try to stop me, and don't pretend you don't know what they are!"
Desperate, I grasped for time, must stall, must....
"Course I don't!"
She stopped, thank the moon, and focused solely on her.Yuaii stood in front of kaz, protectively. Brave pup.
"She's a Changer, a witchdog.. a-a-a.. evil spirit! no one should be able to know things like the future!" Jade insisted, growling like she'd gone bad.
"Thats not true, those are just.. silly silly silly myths! Tales you were told as a pup, to scare you. Keep you in order." Then, smirking- I added, "They obviously didn't work."
"Fen was one! Fen went crazy! There not stable.. one little thing and they'll go wild, crazy, evil! But I.. I can take care of them. Your weak, I see it. I SMELL it. They could kill you- charm you- eat yo-"
Then yuaii began to sing.
"Honeysuckle, dripping from trees... Orange-red sunsets at dawn, here me now- child of love. Listen closer, don't you hear it? Honeysuckle dripping from trees... Orange red sunsets, running in a breeze.. squirrels in the tree! Hear this, child of love.."
Yuaii looked scared, she didn't know what she was doing. But I knew. Fen was something different, when were were squirrel stalking.. that day- he kept humming. Three squirrels fell from the tree. I didn't think anything of it- but after so long. He told me. He thinks overfeeding me would keep them safe. From what? Who knows.. But when they died. I think I understood now. I think Kaz and Yuaii killed there siblings. Witchdogs? No.. something else. But not evil. Yuaii was using her Dogsong to protect me and Kaz. Jade was slowly pacing backwards, fighting us with her eyes.

Chapter 4

I tried to hear what I was saying, why was Jade retreating? Why did Draylee look so scared, and of who? Why was Kaz hiding behind her, when he should be hiding behind Draylee?
Questions swam through my mind, and I became VERY lightheaded.
Then I blacked out.
when I woke up everything seemed calm. Well except for you know- jade howling angrily in the corner of the opening.
"You Pups! Evil evil spirits! They will be the death of us all, Draylee!
I watched Draylee shake her head, "No Jade, they will use there magic for good. Like protecting me from you."
I took that as a invitation to drop a small branch onto her head. It was so easy. "Drooooop." Was all I had to say. Then it fell, her expression.. PRICELESS! Draylee smirked and walked over to Kaz and my side. "Pups, do you want to know who your father was?"
She told us the whole story, and frankly it scared me.
